Special Education Audit Campaign
In 2023, we launched a campaign calling for APS to audit special education services. Parents asked for five key changes:
Stronger engagement with families
A full plan to address audit findings
Regular training for staff, parents, and students
Better partnerships with organizations specializing in special education
A public dashboard to track progress
The district has taken steps, but families still need transparency.
A dashboard will:
Increase transparency & accessibility by creating a tool that proactively communicates the status of SPED improvements and helps families stay informed without attending meetings that may conflict with work and family obligations.
Show progress and accountability by clearly displaying completed, outstanding, and upcoming recommendations with delay notices, including the reason.
